A small sampling of some of my souvenir work over the years.
A very illustrative and retro look for this collection.
A customer requested for polars bears that were “cute but not cartoony” so I went with a kidney bean shape pattern and played with different poses.
I have done many, many versions of sugar skulls but this design for Arizona is my favorite. This collection became a big hit.
Illustrating California while identifying major landmarks and iconography to be sold throughout the entire state became the pinnacle of my souvenir work.
***of course I hid a bigfoot in there***
National Parks are always a treat to work for and Yosemite is one of the best. The SKETCH collection was a favorite of mine and translated fantastically to the products.
This is one of my favorites. Most of the souvenirs they sell at this location are photo collages of the house and it’s interiors. I thought that the “haunted” angle was not being played up so when they requested something new I came up with this. The filigree in the design is inspired by the iron gates at the front of the house and the keys represent the “skeleton key” tours they give
This 1960s mid-century take on the future was a request from the client. I've always enjoyed the retro style so this was a delight to work on. In addition to the illustrations I also designed and guided production on the coffee mugs.
Another time I got to use the SKETCH design for a collection. The dog featured in the foreground is the official dog breed for the state of Tennessee, the bluetick coonhound. The client requested he wear a collar with University of Tennessee colors.
The FUNNIES designs, while not my real sense of humor, were a total joy to illustrate.
A fun and stylistically diverse representation on just some of the collections I’ve worked on for the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
The SKECTH design went through a change when the client requested I show less lake and more woods and add a cabin.
More takes on Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox as well as some very unhappy and cold animals.
Most of what I have done for Chicago were photo collages (not the most fun to share) but occasionally I’d get success with a more graphic collection.
Designing the turnaround for the ceramic tiki shot was fun and really cool to see the finished product from the factory.
That VW bus got repurposed so many times but this look is it’s most natural.
This is not a “true” souvenir but something I did in the style after visiting this fantastic alligator sanctuary. I was so impressed by this place that I drew the sketch in the guest book of the house I was staying at imploring people to give it a visit. I took that sketch and gave it the “postcard treatment” on my iPad.
If you’re ever in the Gulf Shores are of Alabama you owe it to yourself to stop by Alligator Alley.
An assortment of one-offs or designs that never went anywhere but I still think look pretty good.
